Night

I’ve never slept well at night. Even when I fall asleep quickly, a short time later, I awaken abruptly. Wide-awake, twitchy and anxious, my mind looks for a place to rest but rarely finds one.

A long history of this insomnia makes clear to me that there is little sense lying in bed with frantic thoughts racing through my mind, hoping to fall back asleep. Toss and Turn. Toss and Turn. And then?

The night. Cool desert air. Darkness. Stillness. Hidden secrets.

Quiet.

Solitude.

I am there, wandering.
